This Yosemite Park Tour and Picnic was our 2nd (annual) tour to Yosemite and was a reschedule from last year (2015 was canceled due to the Butte Fire.) The tour’s destination was the Sentinel Beach Picnic Area in Yosemite Valley.
We meet at the Oakdale Starbucks Coffee, driving up CA 120, up Priestly Grade to Groveland, and into the National Park, then to Southside Drive in the valley floor and the picnic area. Diane and Don Chaisson were the advance party, getting to Sentinel Beach by 8:30 AM, to make sure we “claimed” tables.
Although there were some difficulties getting a “group car photo” due to poor cell phone reception and large crowds in the valley floor, we did get a couple photos of Porsche cars and iconic El Capitan.
Sentinel Beach was dramatic in views, but the tables and “facilities” were stres
sed by NPS’s deferred maintenance. Next year, we are thinking of going “over the top” and down to Lee Vining and Mono Lake. And a return trip over Hight 120 or 4: epic scenery. The Chaisson’s did the trip over Highway 4 and vouch for the drive!
Stay tuned for next year’s “Annual Yosemite Trip”.
