If you missed our “New (and Old) Member BBQ and Party (Sat Oct 7th) held at Chuck and Jennifer Pierce’s house, you missed one of our best events – EVER!
To refresh your memory, the idea was to have a party to “welcome” members who joined PCA and our Yosemite Region this year. Chuck would fire up his BBQ (for the Peruvian chicken) and his “smoker” (for the tri-tip), and every one else would bring salads, sides and deserts. The turn out was, as Norm Swanberg, our Region’s historian, said “the best for any Yosemite event – ever!“
Eight of our 2017 new members came and joined some of the “old” members, totaling 31 people overall and displaying 16 Porsches. We dined on a spread of chips and vegetable plates/hummus, the aforementioned Peruvian chicken and tri-tip BBQ, salads (green, pasta, fruit and potato salads), BBQ veggies on skewers, garlic bread, fruit pies and cheese cake. And, since this was NOT a driving event, beer and wine was freely available! If anyone went home hungry, they sleep through the afternoon.
But back to our new members and their cars
Our “moved away but still a Yosemite Member at heart” Larry Watson took a nice photo of all the cars lined up on the driveway (don’t ask me how!) What a collection of Porsches!
To get an idea of the “age range” of new member’s cars, Debra and Loren Wheale drove up in “his & her” 912’s, while Carrie and Jon Stone followed with their new, and I mean very new, 2017 911 Turbo S. The color might be mistaken, as I did, as Miami Blue, but it was a special Mexico Blue and was gorgeous. Other new members attending included: Nick Anderson: white 2007 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet, Anthony and Mercedes Vierra: 986 Boxster, Larry and Kris Kirkbride: Black 2007 911 Carrera S, Dennis Fay: Yellow 2006 911 Carrera 4, Brian Sturkie: White 1999 911 Carrera Cabriolet, and Dave and Marianne Boyd: Silver 2007 911 Carrera S
But lets just say that Chuck and Jennifer outdid themselves with this party – what a venue. Great food, great company, great environment and the temperature was even pretty mild– in a “valley” sort of way.
Oh yea, there was this thing about “cow” lawn art!
The idea was that you could get your car’s photo taken with the “cows”. Well, to avoid the rush, we held a contest to decided which car/owner would have their car/cow photo taken AND to appear on the cover of our newsletter, El Portal. The contest was a 10 question “quiz” of fun Region/PCA/Porsche facts. (A copy of the quiz may be found in this or a future El Portal.) The winner was…. Our region historian, Norm Swanberg. Almost seems unfair, right??
Well, here is the winning couple with their Silver 944, Norm and Virginia Swanberg.
With the sun setting, we started to think, “…. WOW, what an event. Maybe we enjoy having a great meal together as much as our cars??” Hmmm, maybe its just like the PCA slogan goes… “ Its not just the cars, it’s the people”™
Stay tuned for more events in 2018!
