There are some events that a face value should be must-go-to’s though they turn out to be, well, just OK. There are some events that initially seem to be, well, nice to do’s, but they turn out to have been totally EPIC!
The Drive and Italian potluck event (July 29th) looked pretty good on the face of it, but turned out EPIC. The members that attended the event know just how good it was. The members who, for whatever reason, sadly missed a great time!.
The drive was an interesting “loop” up into Calaveras county, passing Lake Tulloch, then to Poole Station Road to San Andreas, then back to the valley and onto Chuck and Jennifer’s home (the Italian Potluck dinner locale). Mid drive, the Porsche train stopped in Copperopolis to pick up Don and Diane Chaisson. But gave everyone a chance to admire, again, Ron and Laurie’s new Carrera Cabriolet S.
Here is where the EPIC part of the event comes in. Chuck and Jennifer Pierce welcomed us to their home outside of Stockton AND to their patio and its wood fired pizza oven!
We started with hors d’oeuvres of antipasto meat and cheese plate, tomato salsa on bruschetta, sangria, and various wines. Then to the “main courses” of ravioli, lasagna and fresh made pizza. Talk about good fortune, Greg Zajic of the Sacramento Valley Region joined the event AND he just happened to have managed a Pizza Parlor a few years ago. Greg helped Jennifer with rolling out the dough — we almost expected him to start “tossing” the dough as a show, but instead he just helped getting the perfect consistency.
Chuck and Jennifer spent a lot of time preparing the toppings so that everyone could have their own special order! You would just belly up to the oven and help yourself or let Chuck help top your pizza.
And then, just wait (only a few minutes!!) and start enjoying your Italian plate with new and old friends!

The region really owes a BIG T H A N K Y O U !! to Chuck and Jennifer Pierce for opening their home to our members and a LOT of hard work organizing the potluck. Shout outs also to Virgina Swanberg for her help with coordinating the dinner and Andrew Dalen for setting up the “drive”.
All in all, an EPIC event.
