Time to start thinking of adventures for 2018. Yes, we are working on the 2018 Events Calendar!
While there will be some familiar events, like the “annual dinner” in early 2018, we want to start thinking of some events that will be a “looking forward to” or ” gotta do” events.
Here are some ideas that we are working on:
April 26-30. Zone 7 2018 Tour: Sierra-Desert-Pacific Tour. This event is being organized by Zone 7 people and is a FOUR DAY driving tour with details to be confirmed; but the organizers are looking at starting Day one in Stockton and going to Carson Pass and then to Mammoth Lakes. Next day heads to Death Valley and Furnace Creek. Day three is a mountain run ending in Bakersfield at the Padre Hotel. Finally, day four heads west via Highway 58 and Paso Robles ending in Carmel by the Sea. EPIC.
PS: The event is currently contemplated for 45 cars only; and if the 2017 Zone tour is any indication, the event sold out VERY quickly. We will update progress on this event via our website, newsletter and email-blasts!
Yosemite Region Would like to do a couple “Yosemite Region” drives, one in spring — maybe to the Delta and a nice restaurant, and one in the “summer” — a beat the heat either up to Tahoe or west to the ocean.
Monthly Breakfasts This is an idea that our Drive Chairperson, Andrew Dalen is proposing. Maybe align with some local “cars & coffee” events, ??
Aug 18:WERKS REUNION. WERKS Reunion will continue on the Friday before Monterey car “week”. Planned to return to Corral de Tierra Country Club, near Laguna Seca, this event is another Porsche overload day with all sorts of “concours” ready cars on the fairways of the Country Club. This will NOT be an overnight event since getting hotels in the area for anything reasonable is very difficult.
A busy September:
Sept 7-9: IMSA at Laguna Seca. Do the Porsche Platz thing for one or two days, watch the Contential Tire Champ and the IMSA Champ races, hit a couple interesting restaurants in the Monterey area.
Sept 27-30: Rennsport Reunion VI. This maybe the most Porsche “overload” time of the year — “our” cars on the lawn for WERKS and the Porsche racers that we remember from our past on the track. I’m thinking this is a not to be missed weekend!
October-ish: Our Annual Yosemite trip — this time maybe we go back to lunch at the Ahwahnee (Oh, I mean the Majestic) Hotel. Maybe we “plan” for a bit of a gentle hike. OR… do this in the spring to see the waterfalls in full force — again with a bit of a hike?
There seems to be more interest in Autocrossing — so, we will highlight the Zone 7 Autocross schedule, but with the idea of getting a “handful” of Yosemite Region folks to give this a try!
Of course, there are “track days” or “driver education” events, generally sponsored by the big regions like Golden Gate or Diablo. Thunderhill is a great track to start on, but Laguna Seca is just famous and fun!
