A “Drive” to Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, CA on Friday afternoon, March 23 to attend the Golden Gate Region’s “Club Race” and DE weekend.
After review, we are, essentially, setting up TWO events:
Since the “Club Race”, as organized by Golden Gate Region (GGR), offers opportunities to participate in Driver’s Education (aka. DE or Track Day) sessions, a couple of “us” (Chuck and Don) are planning to sign up for the DE aspect of this GGR event. The DE will include sessions for instructed first timers, a great way to get totally immersed in the “track” experience.
You too can join us!
To join us for the Driver’s Education portion, click here on the GT3 button to “register”. Chuck and Don will coordinate with you for signing up via MotorsportReg.com. and help you do the basic safety inspections and preparations for the track.
Depart location will depend on who and how many members sign up! We will overnight at a reasonably priced motel in Willows. To get an idea of what its like to drive Thunderhill, check out the video below; its one of Don’s hot laps — not the fastest, but good lines and “safe”.
Based on feedback from members, not everyone is ready for “on-track” experience (yet). So, Event #2 is designed as an opportunity to watch the PCA club racers, roam the pits, talk with drivers or even get “involved” by helping “grid cars”, etc. The idea is for this “group” to leave early Sat morning (March 24th) and drive to Thunderhill Raceway Park, arriving about 10 AM. Check in at the gate to sign their waivers (everyone signs waivers!) and then hook up with “us” Driver Ed guys. We’ll give you an overview of what’s going on, places to watch, where the restrooms are (actually, they are pretty nice!), where to get something to eat, etc. You are free to roam around to get a feeling of grass roots PCA Races and “track days”.
At the end of the day, about 4:30, everyone will pack up and caravan with Chuck and Don back “home”, stopping at Granzella’s in Williams for dinner (actually, Granzella’s is pretty good!!)
