This page presents videos of Yosemite Region members or of interest to Region members.
This video is from PCA Spotlight series. It is a detailed explanation of the Intermediate Shaft and IMS bearing by Jake Raby of Flat-6 Innovations. Just to remind members, the IMS/IMS bearing has been a part of Porsche engines for a long time, but the 1997 to 2008 engines (for 911, Boxster and Cayman — the M96 and M97 motor designations) have had “some” problems with the bearing. These problems even lead to a class-action law suit to compensate Porsche owners with affected engine failures.
The video has great views of the affected parts of our motors and a good explanation of the different IMS/IMS bearings over the course of the ’97 to ’08 engine production. Spoiler alert, there were “three” different shafts and bearings during this time. The ’09-’10 motors were redesigned to eliminate the shaft (aka the 9A1 motors). It also does some “myth-busting” on the whole IMS subject.
