So, we “attendee’s” just had to make due with a lot of Sim racing on a awesome “car” that Jeff built with spare parts and eating donuts and coffee and hanging around Nico’s service bay.
President Dave made more use of the “hanging around” than most since he brought some work from his 914 race car to the shop — better to use Nico’s equipment and expertise. Your webmaster caught Dave working on the “Bridgeport” mill, chucking up a 15 mm drill to bore out holes for his wheel lugs. Not sure if Nico was there to help or just making sure Dave didn’t bust the mill, or worse, cause bodily harm. Way too much paperwork if that happened!
The SIM Racing system that Jeff put together used Nico’s big screen TV, a real race seat that Nico loaned the club, a feedback steering wheel from Jeff’s system, and a now Club owned computer and chassis. I hope I got all that right!
Jeff gave a few demo laps (yep, he is good at this SIM Racing stuff!), then coached members in their “test” laps. Jeff called me over and assured me that working with the big screen wouldn’t bother my stomach. I managed 2 laps of Laguna Seca before the “quizzes” got me. But other members seemed to be pretty good at it. I’m jealous.
So folks just mingled, looked at the various bits of Porsche “eye candy” sitting in the shop, from GT3 cup cars to the black slant nose 935 on the lift.
Funny how time flies when you’re really having fun!
